Flying In, May 8th

So on May 8th I started my travel to actually get into Chile. I finished packing early on in the day and put everything in the car. Only later I would find that I had forgotten my adapter. But it's ok because I am able to borrow an adapter from friends. We got caught in a small traffic jam because of the Philly game that was going on, but we made it through pretty easily. Then we went through all that airport security stuff. Which got me thinking about why we need to actually do all that stuff.

Metal scanners? For a plastic or liquid bomb? Nice. Guns and knives I can understand, and it might be cheaper to do that than to have a person do person searches like they do at clubs sometimes. But then again, you can make plastic guns and knives.

Cellphones and other electronic devices. I have trouble understanding this one. People can use a bunch of cellphones all at once in close proximity with hundreds of other electrical appliances, and power lines nearby without any problem. But all of a sudden you can disable a plane using a cell phone signal. I don't understand why. Just another useless security restriction to give the appearance of safety I guess. This same "wtf" applies to ipods, computers, and other electrical devices. Not sure why those appliances can work well together, but when put on a plane they cause things to go haywire. If those FAA rules are to be believed.

Philadelphia airport... seems inefficient. We waited as 3-4 planes seemed to completely jump us in line for the runway. Like, they went out of their gate, as we sat there on the tarmac, pulled up on the taxi lane, passed us, and took off. Meanwhile we sat there and wasted fuel. The Atlanta airport was much better run. Not only was there a well established line. The planes didn't have to wait for 5 minutes to wait for the plane ahead to move out of the way. I'm pretty sure planes travel fast enough to not need to wait that long for the plane ahead of you to move out of the way.

9 hour flight to Chile. The stars were so clear 40000 feet in the air =) And it was a pretty big airplane. Probably the biggest I've ever been on. Was pretty cool. Even if the flight time was the longest I've ever had. Food was alright to. The landings were smooth, and we were soon off of the airplane and on our way to complete the customs check to actually enter the country of Chile. But soon enough, we were on a bus, and heading to the hotel. Hopefully, this would be the start of an amazing 2 weeks.

I'll put up a post later this night about my first day in Chile

Welcome

Welcome to my Chile Plus 3 Blog!

Very soon I shall be embarking on a trip to Chile with my university, the University of Pittsburgh. I can't wait for it to start, but until then, I will be left with only my imagination. The trip starts May 8th, so check back starting then everyday from the 8th to the 21st to see my thoughts about my days in Chile.

Can't wait
